Background
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Business from the University of Western Ontario, with a focus on municipal government and business, and further study in Regional Economic Development from the University of Waterloo.
I spent nearly 30 years with Ontario Power Generation (formerly Ontario Hydro), working directly with communities, employees, and senior leadership through some of the organization’s most significant transitions, including plant closures, environmental assessments, and new project approvals. That work gave me a solid foundation in balancing economic, environmental, and social priorities at the community level.
Experience That Matters
Throughout my career, I built a reputation for listening carefully, solving problems fairly, and keeping communities informed through complex decisions. Key highlights include:
- Led community and employee communications during the closure of a major power station, achieving a smooth transition with no labour disruptions
- Worked directly with residents and stakeholders on environmental assessments and infrastructure projects, finding solutions that balanced community needs with practical outcomes
- Managed teams and recommended senior leadership through periods of significant organizational change
- Recognized with the OPG PowerWithin Award and Chief Nuclear Officer Award for excellence in community relations
I have also contributed to agricultural interests in Ontario, including research and writing for The Sustainability of Agriculture in the Urban Shadow (Ontario Coalition to Preserve Foodlands),and developed and marketed Ontario Hydro Energy Efficiency programs for the agriculture sector. I advocated for stronger public participation in Ontario’s planning and environmental assessments by contributing to submission papers.
Having worked with Susan for more than a decade, I’ve seen firsthand her ability to bring together diverse stakeholders, navigate complex challenges, and build consensus around practical solutions. Whether working with government officials, community leaders, businesses, or employees, Susan consistently earns trust through her professionalism, sound judgement, and collaborative approach.
Susan brings a rare combination of real-world experience, a deep commitment to public service, and a genuine passion for her community. Her previous experience on Council gives her an understanding of how local government works and how to turn good ideas into meaningful action.
Although I don’t live in the community, I know the residents of Minto would be well served by Susan’s leadership and dedication.

She brought a steady, principled approach — always grounded in honesty and transparency — and made sure everyone stayed informed every step of the way, even when we didn’t have all the answers yet.
Thanks to Sue’s guidance, we were able to navigate a major transition in a way that kept relationships strong and left people feeling respected. Her years of experience building genuine connections across government, community leaders, and the public at large made all the difference.
Sue’s wisdom still shapes how I lead today, and I have no doubt she’ll bring that same warmth and integrity to Town of Minto.
